Perge Ancient City

A Pamphylian city with a Roman stadium, colonnaded street and monumental gate

About Perge Ancient City

Perge was one of the most important cities of ancient Pamphylia and is one of the most rewarding sites near Antalya. Roughly 15 kilometres east of the city, it is easy to reach by bus, taxi or as part of a tour.

The Hellenistic gate and its twin towers mark the entrance to the old city. Beyond that, a long colonnaded street runs through the centre, with a water channel running down the middle. The stadium, with seating for many thousands of spectators, is among the best-preserved in Anatolia, and the theatre and agora are also worth a look. Many of the finest statues recovered here are displayed in the Antalya Museum.

  • Visit early or late in summer; the site is open and sun-exposed.
