Düden Waterfalls

Upper and Lower Düden: waterfalls inside and at the edge of the city

About Düden Waterfalls

The Düden stream rises in the Taurus foothills and disappears underground before resurfacing in Antalya, where it forms two quite different waterfalls.

Upper Düden lies in a park north of the centre. The stream spreads into a series of cascades surrounded by shaded gardens, picnic lawns and cafes, which makes it a relaxed place to escape the summer heat. There are paths behind and beside the falls.

Lower Düden is on the coast in the Lara area: the river drops off a cliff roughly 40 metres into the sea. The best views come from a clifftop park above, and from the water on boat tours that leave from the Lara coast and nearby harbours; check with operators for current schedules.

Practical notes

  • Upper Düden is easiest by taxi or bus from the centre; Lower Düden is close to the Lara hotels and the Karpuzkaldıran area.
  • Late spring brings the strongest flow; in summer the volume can be lower.
  • Sunset is the best time at Lower Düden, when the sea turns copper.
  • Carry water and wear shoes with grip: paths near the falls can be wet.
