Antalya Museum

Turkey's most important archaeological museum on the Mediterranean coast

About Antalya Museum

The Antalya Museum is the best way to understand the ancient sites around the city before you visit them. Its collection covers the region from the Palaeolithic through the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, and the highlight is the Gallery of Gods, filled with Roman marble statues, many excavated at Perge.

Look for the sarcophagi and the Hall of Emperors, along with ethnographic displays of Ottoman-era craft and daily life. Labels are in Turkish and English. The museum sits in the Konyaaltı district, on the road towards the Konyaaltı beach and tram line, so it fits easily into a day that also includes the beach.

Practical notes

  • Allow two to three hours for a proper visit.
  • Opening days, hours and ticket prices change; check the Ministry of Culture and Tourism listing for the Antalya Museum before you go. Many travellers use the Museum Pass Turkey, which also covers several nearby ancient sites, but confirm current coverage.
  • Visit here first, then Perge and Aspendos, and the sculptures you see in situ will make more sense.
  • It is well suited to a hot afternoon or a rainy winter day.
